Information for patients
This leaflet can be made available in other formats including large print, CD and Braille and in languages other than English, upon request.
Aftercare
Following your test, we recommend that you go to the toilet to try and remove as much of the carbon dioxide gas as possible.
You may also need to pass a bowel movement or some retained fluid.
Taking deep breaths will also help you feel more comfortable and remove some of the gas that was used. A drink will be made for you if you would like one. As long as you are feeling ok, you are free to leave the department. You can resume your normal diet.
Are there any side effects?
You should not experience any side effects from this test aside from some mild stomach pains. However, if you were to experience any severe pains in your stomach following your scan today, you should seek medical attention from your local A&E department. If you were to develop any redness in your eyes following your scan, you should seek medical attention from your local eye A&E. James Cook is the nearest to this Trust.
You can take this information leaflet with you to show the staff what test you have had and what drugs you have been given.
Alternatively, you can inform them you have had an intravenous injection of Buscopan.
Results
Once your scan has been reviewed by a doctor and a report has been made, the results will then be sent to your doctor or consultant. The results will then be discussed with you at your next appointment with your doctor.
