A group of long-serving NHS staff in the Tees Valley were recognised today in the first of a series of events recognising people who have dedicated whole careers to the health service.
The first event, hosted at the University Hospital of North Tees today by chief executive Julie Gillon, celebrated all staff who have worked at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust for more than 45 years – with those at the event clocking up over 1,000 years of NHS service between them.
Staff from across the Trust showcased the variety of roles that are vital in the NHS including nurses, midwives, service managers, administrative assistants, laboratory and estates staff.
Staff had time to reflect on their careers over afternoon tea, before a presentation was made to each member.
Speaking at the event, Julie said: “At the very minimum, the first of our colleagues in the room today started working at our hospitals in 1978.
“You should all be exceptionally proud of what you have delivered for the NHS, for 45 years and beyond. Your wide range of careers shows us just how far the National Health Service has come – with some roles that may not have existed here over 45 years ago.
“You have kept Stockton, Hartlepool and the surrounding areas moving with your dedication to your vocation and I thank you all for your commitment.”
Julie added: “I look forward to meeting more colleagues over the summer to personally thank some of our longest serving and loyal staff members – it is truly a privilege to spend some time with you all to acknowledge your exemplary work.”
“This is the beginning of a series of events highlighting some of our longest serving staff members. We would like to congratulate all staff who have reached long service milestones in their careers – and look forward to inviting more staff along to celebrate.”
