The importance of physical distancing is being highlighted with our new ‘Have a heart – Stay apart’ campaign. Calling on the public to heed government advice and remain at least two metres apart.
The campaign encourages people to be heroes in their own right and help the NHS to save lives. All by keeping a safe distance at those times when they have to leave their homes.
Using strong, social media messaging the campaign is using everyday items to express how far two metres is.
Simple, clear images show people separated by a three-piece settee, a bed or two shopping trolleys to illustrate the required gap.
The aim is to make the two-metre distance clear in people’s mind, especially those more used to imperial measurements.
Deepak Dwarakanath, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust Medical Director and Deputy Chief Executive, said: “As has been repeated often of late. We are operating in unprecedented times.
“Physical distancing is a key weapon in the fight against COVID-19. This virus is spread by droplets from sneezes and coughs. It’s not airborne.
“Social distancing and remaining two-metres apart at all times limits the opportunity for droplets to reach each other. Along with regular, thorough handwashing, is one of the best things each and every one of us can do.”
The Trust has already implemented social distancing procedures. Such as requiring staff in queues to stand two metres apart. And has changed the restaurants and cafeterias to take away only.
The very nature of health work often requires staff and patients to work in close proximity to each other. The Trust is therefore appealing to the public to make this close working for staff as safe as possible.
Deepak continued: “Our Trust is made up of key workers, whether they be front line or support staff. It is vital that we can continue to come to work to do our bit to help the country. We need the public to help us by doing their bit to limit the opportunities this virus has to spread.
“So remain at home unless necessary, self-isolate completely if you have any symptoms. Wash your hands often and maintain the two metre distance while out.
“As our campaign says: Have a heart – Stay apart.”
