One of a small number nationwide, the state-of-art Health and Social Care Academy (HSCA) features:
- A bespoke simulation training suite within realistic, health care settings
- A four-bed training bay
- An immersive suite
- Several flexible training suites and class rooms
- Trainee/faculty common room
- Simulated domestic environments
The Health and Social Care Academy is part of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust’s Faculty of Leadership, Learning and Improvement, in partnership with Hartlepool College of Further Education and Hartlepool Borough Council.
The innovative partnership has resulted in ward 10 at the University Hospital of Hartlepool being transformed into a new academy to train the next generation of health care professionals.
The academy secured £1.25m of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Towns Deal Fund, in a bid to provide significant health and social care training for the region.
Students will be able to gain first-hand, practical experience of:
- Acute care: including patient and clinical equipment simulators for training in maternity, general clinical skills, intensive care treatment, major incidents and trauma
- Specialist clinical procedures: including simulation for endoscopy
- Community: including simulation of ‘at home’ health and social care scenarios such as community health, dementia care and child and vulnerable adult safeguarding
The Health and Social Care Academy also offers an extensive range of courses and training options for the wider community including first aid, communication and interview Skills, and neurodiversity training.
