Target audience
This qualification is for people who work with or look after children, enabling them to have skills and knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid situations which can arise when looking after children. This qualification is suitable for anyone who cares for children and infants; including parents, guardians, grandparents etc.
Assessment and certification
Assessment of learning is completed by:
Practical assessments – observed by the Trainer throughout the course, with the results of each learning outcome recorded on the practical assessment paperwork.
Theory assessment/multiple choice question papers – there is 1 paper per unit for each Learner and Learners should answer all the questions under ‘examination’ conditions.
This course is fully accredited and on successful completion, learners will receive a 3 year qualification from our awarding body. The Learner needs to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.
This course is delivered using a range of methods and resources including:
Face to Face tutor facilitation, First Aid manikins, scenarios, first aid kits, group discussions, small group activities and video clips.

Learning outcomes
After attending this course, learners will be able to:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
- Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are unresponsive
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are choking
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries
