A health trust’s charity is raising funds to help offer extra support to patients who are on end of life care and to their loved ones.
North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has plans to refurbish three specialist rooms it offers to patients who are dying.
The Oasis rooms, at the University Hospital of North Tees, help provide a peaceful environment for patients and their relatives.
The rooms, now 10 years old and in need of refurbishment work, include facilities like a kitchen to have refreshments, sitting area and a bathroom.
The Trust is also appealing for funds to go towards comfort bags for loved ones staying at the bedside, which include toiletries and other important items.
Robyn Willis, clinical nurse specialist in end of life care, said: “The special rooms help provide a peaceful place for patients who are dying as well as their loved ones who may need a space to rest and recharge.
“These rooms were created in 2013, thanks to the generous donations to our Trust’s charity, North Tees and Hartlepool Together.
“But these rooms are now in need of some refurbishment, so we are looking to use any further donations to carry out this work.”
The team is also appealing for people to donate items to special comfort bags given to relatives who are by the bedside.
The bags include toiletries including shampoos, toothpaste and moisturisers, among other essential items.
Robyn added: “We know the rooms and the comfort bags make a real difference.
“The continued generous donations people give also help to provide comfort bags to loved ones staying at the bedside.
“We would like to offer comfort to as many people as possible and people’s kind charitable gifts help us to do this.
“Thank you for your supporting in helping us to provide additional comfort.”
