The University Hospital of Hartlepool is making important changes to its vehicle access points to improve the flow of traffic and ease patient access to key facilities.
Beginning Saturday 7 September, the current exit on Holdforth Road (nearest the roundabout on Easington Road) will become the entrance for all patients and visitors.
This new access will allow patients to access the urgent treatment centre much quicker than in the past.
The current entrance will become the exit, although drivers are being advised that this will also act as an entrance to the secondary staff car park and to Alice House Hospice.
Specialist nurse Moira Sheerin said: “This simple change will make getting to the main entrance and the urgent treatment centre easier and quicker. It’ll make it more convenient for patients and visitors to reach these critical areas.”
To ensure a smooth transition, Hartlepool Borough Council will be installing clear signage on the approaching roads, guiding drivers to the new entrance and exit points.
Additionally, the hospital grounds will feature well-marked signs to direct traffic appropriately.
Outpatient receptionist Laurence Herdman added: “The changes will be well-signposted but we are asking drivers to take extra care and remember that we have a 10 mile per hour speed limit on site for everyone’s safety.”
North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the community as it implements these changes to improve access to the University Hospital of Hartlepool.
