There was disappointment today for the Rowan Team at the 2022 Parliamentary Awards. But the team is still looking ahead with confidence.
Shortlisted for the Nursing and Midwifery award, the team unfortunately lost out to the Admiral Nurses team at Great Western Hospital at the ceremony today.
Anita Scott, lead midwife for continuity of carer. Speaking from the award ceremony in London, she said: “Congratulations to Great Western Hospital.
“Of course we’re disappointed but maternity and nursing is a family and we are really pleased for the winners. We’ll all be back at the Rowan Suite tomorrow, hard at work supporting all the women under our care.
“As far as we’re concerned every baby we deliver is a special ‘prize’ all on their own and we’re more determined than ever to offer only the very best service.”
Jill Mortimer, MP for Hartlepool who nominated the service, said “Although I am disappointed that the Rowan Suite was not named the winner of the 2022 Parliamentary Award for Nursing and Midwifery, the progress it has made since opening at the height of the pandemic has been remarkable.
“The state-of-the-art Rowan Suite has brought births back to Hartlepool and is one of our town’s great success stories.”
Launched in 2018, the NHS Parliamentary Awards recognises the best in health care across a number of categories.
The University Hospital of Hartlepool’s Rowan Suite includes a water pool, active birthing room and individual rooms with a ‘home from home’ feel. It has welcomed more than 50 babies since opening in 2021.
