Our experienced team of doctors, nurses, health care assistants and hospital play specialists care for children and young people, providing high quality care. Patients are admitted under many specialities including medical, orthopaedic and surgical.
We work as a team with the Children and young people’s Emergency Department and any patient who requires overnight admission is transferred to our ward.
We have made sure that everything we do helps to make a hospital stay as comfortable as possible for our young patients. Family centred care is very important to us and parents/carers are encouraged to be involved in their child’s care.
Tea and coffee facilities and a parents’ room are available and we are able to offer one parent or carer the opportunity to stay overnight with their child.
We try to create a relaxed, calm environment for children, young people and their families. We also have a number of playrooms on the ward, including an art room.
Our ward is child and young people focused and our team of young and junior inspectors help make improvements to the unit.
Visiting information
Parents have unlimited visiting, although we ask that the non-resident parent leaves at a good time to ensure all patients are able to get their rest.
All other visitors are welcome from 10am to 7pm.
We ask that visitors are limited to two per patient. This is to ensure rooms do not become too noisy for the other patients on our busy ward.
All visitors under 16 must have an adult with them. Please make sure that all children are supervised throughout the ward and that all visitors respect the privacy of patients.
Accessing the ward
For the safety of the patients, the ward has a locked entrance and access is via an intercom system.
On arrival, please press the door buzzer and you will be given access by one of the ward staff.
You will also need to press the buzzer when you leave the ward. Please make sure when leaving the ward that you do not give access to someone you do not know by holding the door open for them.
