A leg ulcer is a long-lasting sore that takes more than two weeks to heal. Usually developing on the inside of the leg, just above the ankle, an ulcer can be painful and cause the whole leg to swell.
Treatment can include regular cleaning and dressing of the ulcer. A compression dressing may also be administered to aid healing.
If you have a leg ulcer you may be referred by your GP to one of our specialist leg ulcer clinics, which are held from Lawson Street Health Centre in Stockton and Wynyard Road Primary Care Centre in Hartlepool.
Advice on levels of activity and healthy eating will be offered by our expert team to support recovery.
Our district nursing staff will treat you at the clinic, where you will receive an assessment and treatment plan as well as advice and support to help aid healing.
