How to get in touch
The Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU) is open 7 days a week, 8:30am to 9:30pm.
You can contact our triage line and self-refer at any time during your pregnancy if you think there is a problem by calling 01642 624239.
Our maternity assessment unit (MAU) sees anyone with urgent pregnancy issues as well as providing some ongoing planned monitoring and scans. The purpose of our MAU is to provide a triage service for pregnancy-related concerns after 14 completed weeks of pregnancy.
You can find us on the ground floor at both the University Hospital of North Tees and University Hospital of Hartlepool.
Should you need to call us for advice, a qualified midwife will triage all pregnancy-related calls.
A detailed history will be taken over the phone and any enquiries directed appropriately.
The midwifery-led MAU team provide individualised care and if you are invited into MAU, please be aware that we operate on a priority-based triage system.
We will always endeavor to see you promptly however, sometimes you may have longer waiting times.
Once you are seen by a midwife, the length of time you will be in MAU will depend upon individual circumstance and investigations.
When to attend
In MAU we often see people for planned attendance but mainly for emergency attendance.
There are many reasons you may need to visit the MAU, but some examples may be:
- Your baby isn’t moving as much as it usually does (such as reduced faetal movement)
- Vaginal bleeding
- Waters breaking (Membranes rupturing)
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Abdominal trauma or pain
- Ultrasound scan review to check your baby’s growth
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any urgent pregnancy concerns.
