Afasic is a charity that provides parents and families with information, advice and support about speech, language and communication needs.

British Stammering Association (STAMMA)

The British Stammering Association offers help and information on stammering. The website has sections for young people, parents, teachers and health visitors.

BBC’s Tiny Happy People

A wide range of helpful information for parents to develop young children’s communication skills through simple activities and play ideas.

Simple, fun activities for children, from newborn to five years old.

Selective Mutism and Research Association (SMiRA)

Provides support and information about Selective Mutism (SM), an anxiety disorder that prevents those affected from speaking in certain situations, such as at school or in public.

Speech and Language UK

Speech and Language UK (previously known as ICAN) is a national organisation that provides information and advice for parents and professionals.  

This includes information on typical development of talking and understanding words, a progress checker for parents, an educator hub that offers training opportunities.

The Infant and Toddler Forum

The Infant and Toddler Forum website provides information about feeding and nutrition for babies and young children. The tips and factsheets on this site are useful for parents and carers of all young children, including those who have feeding difficulties.

The Michael Palin Centre

The Michael Palin Centre is a specialist centre for children who stammer, supported by the charity Action for Stammering Children. The website provides information, advice and resources to support parents, teachers, and children up to the age of 18.

National Autistic Society

The National Autistic Society provides information and support to people with autism, their families, and those who work with them. The website has sections for parents, carers and families, as well as for professionals.

The RALLICampaign

The Raising Awareness of Language Learning Impairments (RALLI) campaign have produced a number of videos, which you can watch on their YouTube channel. The videos give background to the campaign and information to professionals on how to spot a language difficulty and what to do to help. There are also a number of videos aimed at parents and families, as well as children and young people themselves.

Words for Life

The Words for Life website has been developed by the National Literacy Trust for parents to give you an idea of what communication milestones your baby and child might reach as they grow. There are also ideas for activities you can do together to help your children develop their skills.
